This image is part of a long term personal project of artist portraits. While much of my practice involves documenting the works of many and varied artists, it is the people and places of their creation that interests me. Pete Mattila is a blacksmith, sculptor and knife maker. His studio is tucked away on the waterfront in Hobart, Tasmania. This piece was a bit too big to bring to my studio, and the setting was ideal for an action portrait.
