As the ice melts from the Tasman Glacier it runs into the Tasman Lake, which sits below Mt Cook. The Tasman Lake is drained by the Tasman River, a beautiful braided river, the true magnificence of which can only really be truly appreciated from the air as it continues on its way to join Lake Pukaki. This image was made after a few days of heavy snow. The surrounding mountains looked pristine in their fresh white coats. And yet, to my eye, they were still no match for the exquisite colour of the Tasman River.
