Mutable Grids is a triptych that brings together three visual studies of intersecting structures drawn from hand-made, vegetal, and architectural surfaces. A damaged wicker screen, overlapping fern fronds, and a wall of glass blocks are linked through a shared language of repetition, crossing lines, rhythm, and permeability. Although each image originates in a different material context, the series approaches them as related fields of order: structures that hold, filter, divide, and connect. What interests the photographer is the instability of the grid itself. In one image, order appears worn, broken, and vulnerable; in another, it becomes organic, unfolding through the logic of growth; in the third, it is rigid, modular, and reflective. The grid is therefore not treated as a fixed geometric system, but as something mutable — capable of shifting between fragility and control, softness and resistance, transparency and concealment. Across the triptych, form moves between the tactile and the abstract, between surface and threshold. Presented in monochrome, the works are reduced to texture, contrast, and structural rhythm. The removal of colour allows the formal correspondences between the three images to emerge more clearly: woven strands echo fern ribs, vegetal repetition meets architectural modularity, and damaged surfaces resonate with reflective ones. The series invites a slower way of looking in which small differences in material, density, and interruption become significant. At its core, Mutable Grids reflects on how order is constructed and experienced across natural and built environments. The triptych is less concerned with strict classification than with transformation: how similar visual principles reappear in different forms, and how systems of crossing, weaving, and containment can remain open, porous, and unstable. In this way, the work becomes a meditation on structure as something lived, altered, and continually in transition.
