My photo captures a small child climbing onto the base of Francesco Vezzoli’s lion sculpture in the courtyard of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. His grandmother extends her left hand in support, a simple act of care that quietly resists the sculpture’s more aggressive message of rupture and power. The moment between child and elder introduces something else: a small, enduring gesture of connection, protection, and human tenderness.
