This breathtaking black and white photograph captures the stunning interior dome of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, completed in 1929 and considered one of the finest examples of ecclesiastical Art Deco architecture in the United States. The circular ceiling features zigzag patterns that go all the way around, with a "blinded oculus decorated with 'arrows' or 'feathers'" stretching over the heads of worshippers . The circular dome, 40 feet above the floor, symbolizes the infinite and the chevron (herringbone) symbols and geometric shapes create this mesmerizing pattern that makes the church globally unique . The photograph beautifully captures the spiritual journey upward through the intricate concentric rings and decorative molding that draw the eye toward the divine center - a perfect example of how "all lines in the sanctuary lead to the pulpit, emphasizing the importance of the Word of God".
