The ancient Hokan-ji Temple in Kyoto’s Gion area seems to appear by chance to someone wandering around the old town at night. The narrow streets of old town Gion provide a variety of compositional choices. This choice, with a clean leading line and variety of light sources, most evoked a feeling of another place and time. Shooting late at night allowed me to keep all the visual elements simple and archetypal.
