A photographic journey into the life of the legendary New Zealand's Alpine ParrotKea are a unique parrot species endemic to the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Keas are one of three parrot species which evolved in isolation for millions of years, and is the world’s only mountain parrot. Kea are considered “treasure” according to Maori. They were considered “guardians” of the mountains. Maori gave the name Kea, describing the sound of its call. These highly intelligent and very sociable birds are well adapted to harsh mountain environment. Unfortunately, the traits that kea developed for survival, their curiosity and omnivorous appetite, have created conflict with humans over the last century. With only a few thousand birds remaining, the Kea is a Nationally Endangered species and we have to protect them.
