Country / Region:
There is a land in a remote and small region of southern Italy (Basilicata or Lucania) where you feel on the moon. It is characterized by clayey formations called Calanchi. Calanchi are the result of a slow and constant modeling work done by the atmospheric agents on a malleable land that lets itself be done because it knows that this is the only way to persist and to create beauty There are different places in Basilicata with these orographic formations, one of them is Pisticci. I chose to take this photo in the summer, in broad daylight and using a fish eye, to enhance this sensation of an extraterrestrial landscape. Basilicata is a hard land that only the mildness, perseverance and patience of the "Lucani" can tame. As Sinisgalli said, a writer from those lands..."Il Lucano lives well in the shadows" describing with poetry the discretion and the being reserved with which we like to go about life.
